About Belize Zoo
The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center (TBZTEC), fondly known as The Best Little Zoo in the World, is a celebrated non-profit wildlife sanctuary founded in 1983 by Sharon Matola. Located on 30 acres along the George Price Highway, this world-renowned facility serves as both a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center, caring for over 160 animals spanning 43 native species. The zoo focuses on providing immersive educational experiences that connect visitors with Belize’s unique natural heritage.
Guests can participate in guided tours, animal experiences, and even adopt animals, fostering a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation. The Tropical Education Center, adjacent to the zoo, offers accommodations and a learning environment for both locals and international visitors. With its dedication to conservation education, human-wildlife conflict resolution, and accessibility for individuals with physical disabilities, the Belize Zoo not only attracts over 43,000 visitors annually but also plays a vital role in preserving Belize's rich biodiversity.
