BeMomaware, an initiative by the Sacramento Maternal Mental Health Collaborative (SMMHC), is dedicated to enhancing access to maternal mental health care, particularly within Black/African American and Latina communities in Sacramento. Funded by Postpartum Support International and Anthem Blue Cross, this project aims to combat stigma while promoting culturally relevant resources.

The organization focuses on increasing awareness of maternal mental health issues, which disproportionately affect people of color—1 in 3 Black/African American and 1 in 4 Latina birthing individuals face mental health challenges during or after pregnancy. BeMomaware offers various resources such as the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) screening tool, provider training, and enhanced case management.

Additionally, BeMomaware fosters community engagement through initiatives like the Voices of Resilience program and educational tutorials designed to build a support network. Their mission is to create an equitable system of prevention, identification, and treatment services that support the mental health and overall well-being of mothers and families within Sacramento County.
