Benbecula Distillery is a new whisky distillery on the Isle of Benbecula in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, between North and South Uist. Founded by local businessman and crofter Angus MacMillan, the distillery grew from a long-held ambition to support economic opportunity and community life in the islands. Whisky is being made on the Uists for the first time, using handmade copper pot stills housed in a glass-walled extension inspired by a lighthouse.

The site combines production with striking views across the island’s coastal landscape and is presented as a visitor destination. Benbecula Distillery offers whisky and spirits through its shop, alongside cask offerings and society membership. Visitors can explore the distillery and learn about its story, people, island setting and whisky-making through the visit experience.

The team includes Master Distiller Brendan McCarron, whose career spans more than two decades, and local staff with expertise in distilling and operations. Rooted in the Outer Hebrides, the brand brings together island heritage, hands-on whisky production and a commitment to creating lasting opportunities for the local community
