Benefaction Foundation

Benefaction is a Canadian charitable public foundation that helps individuals, corporations, and financial advisors support charitable causes through planned giving. Its mission is to encourage philanthropy while helping donors maximize their giving and reduce tax and administrative burdens. The foundation offers Donor Advised Funds (DAFs), which can be incorporated into a donor’s broader wealth management plan.

To establish a fund, donors contribute at least $25,000 and may give cash, publicly traded securities, private company shares, or insurance policies. Benefaction provides a tax receipt for eligible donations. Contributions are invested in a separate account, with the aim of long-term growth for charitable purposes; DAF funds grow tax-free in a balanced portfolio. Donors recommend which registered Canadian charities receive grants, how much they receive, and when. Benefaction reviews recommendations and distributes approved grants.

The foundation also provides information and support for donors, advisors, and charities, including guidance on how DAFs work, giving options, policies, and tax considerations.
