About UK Commission on Bereavement
The UK Commission on Bereavement is a collaborative initiative involving various charities working to address the pressing issues surrounding bereavement in the UK. Established in June 2021, the Commission aims to recommend improved support for the millions affected by loss, particularly in light of the significant bereavement caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. With an estimated three million individuals facing bereavement due to the unprecedented number of deaths in 2020 and 2021, the Commission focuses on understanding new challenges, such as social isolation, access to support services, and the unique experiences of diverse communities.
Through consultations with bereaved individuals and experts, as well as a review of existing literature, the Commission aims to identify effective practices and advocate for essential services. The final report, published in October 2022, outlines key findings and recommendations to enhance support for those grieving. By collaborating with partner organizations like Marie Curie, the Commission strives to foster a society that effectively addresses and navigates the complexities of bereavement.
