Bertha McMorris Legacy

Bertha McMorris Legacy is a foundation dedicated to supporting educational opportunity for young people from Chicago, particularly students from the South Side and Woodlawn communities. Through the Bertha L. McMorris Scholarship Fund, the organization awards annual scholarships to eligible students pursuing a college education. Applicants must live in Chicago, attend a Chicago public high school, have a GPA of at least 3.0, be accepted to a four-year college or university, and complete the application and interview process. Woodlawn and South Side residents receive priority consideration.

The foundation invites students to apply and community members to support its mission through donations. It also shares testimonials to highlight the impact of its work and encourage involvement. Since its inception, the fund reports raising $80,000, investing more than $50,000 toward its long-term sustainability, and awarding scholarships to 14 students. Guided by Bertha L. McMorris’s belief in the power of education, Bertha McMorris Legacy works to help deserving students take the next step in their college journeys.
