Best Friends Sanctuary

Best Friends Sanctuary is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter serving Fentress County, Tennessee, from its location in Jamestown. Its mission is to prevent cruelty, relieve animal suffering, educate the community, and provide affordable spay and neuter support. The sanctuary rescues stray dogs and cats, cares for animals in its shelter, and helps connect them with adoptive homes or partner shelters. In 2024, it took in more than 600 stray animals and reported 46 adoptions, nine owner reclaims, 453 animals sent to partner shelters, and no animals euthanized.

People can explore adoptable dogs and cats, submit adoption applications, and ask about fostering; the organization has also highlighted urgent foster needs for puppies. Its low-cost spay and neuter program is available when funding permits, with applications encouraged for households earning under $36,000. Best Friends Sanctuary also shares practical pet-care resources and welcomes community support through donations and volunteering. As a 501(c)(3) organization that relies entirely on donations, it depends on community generosity to continue its work.
