About Bethesda House
Bethesda House is a renowned agency that has been providing comprehensive and professional support systems since its establishment in 1992. Originally a small shelter for abused women and their children, Bethesda House has expanded its services to cater to diverse individuals dealing with various forms of abuse and gender-based violence. Located in Durham Region (Ontario), where a significant percentage of violent crimes are domestic-related, Bethesda House recognizes the urgent need for assistance.
With an average of 21 domestic-related calls per day to the Durham Regional Police Services, it is evident that there is a significant amount of gender-based violence occurring in the region. Moreover, these statistics do not account for other forms of abuse or violence within the LGBTQ community. Bethesda House not only supports survivors but also focuses on prevention through educational programs and awareness strategies in schools and the community.
The organization is proud to be one of the pioneers in allowing pets into the shelter, and they firmly believe that addressing abuse and violence requires the active involvement of men as partners. They strongly advocate for healthy and respectful relationships, particularly for children. Bethesda House is grateful for the support of the community in their mission to provide barrier-free services and eliminate abuse and violence
