Better Birth Oakland

Better Birth Oakland is a birth and family life organization founded by doula, community activist, mother, grandmother, and author Samsarah Morgan. Its work focuses on supporting families and training birth workers, with a commitment to community outreach and education aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality. The organization offers birth and postpartum doula services, childbirth education, doula and childbirth educator training, and community birthworker training. It also provides midwifery referrals and information, as well as birth services for Anthem Blue Cross holders. Services are available across the Bay Area, including the East Bay, Fremont, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Silicon Valley.

Through its Nia Healing Center, Better Birth Oakland provides counseling, coaching, and hypnotherapy for individuals, couples, and families. The center also supports rites of passage and celebrations, including weddings and baby blessings. Other offerings include midwife coaching, monthly doula working lunches, educational programs, and birthworker events. The organization shares resources through its blog and offers Samsarah Morgan’s book, The Birth Plan, for purchase.
