BetterKids is a paediatric surgery service for newborns, infants, toddlers and children across Queensland and northern New South Wales. Its surgeons, Prof. Craig McBride and A/Prof. Bhavesh Patel, bring more than 20 years of experience in Australia and New Zealand. They contribute to healthcare education, professional training and safety and quality improvement.

The team provides consultations, antenatal counselling, appointment guidance and support before and after surgery. Care spans general paediatric surgery, minimally invasive techniques and specialised treatment for congenital and acquired conditions. Common concerns include hernias, appendicitis, gastrointestinal conditions, undescended testes, hypospadias, urinary and bladder problems, tongue tie and ingrown toenails. Procedures include hernia repairs, appendicectomy, gastrostomy, colostomy, orchidopexy, circumcision, hypospadias repair, pyeloplasty and surgery for skin lesions.

BetterKids aims to guide families from diagnosis through recovery, with clear information and a focus on minimising discomfort and supporting recovery. Consultations are available at several hospitals and medical centres, mainly in Brisbane, with Dr Patel also travelling to the Sunshine Coast.
