About Better Seafood PH
Better Seafood Philippines is an USAID-funded initiative implemented by Sustainable Fisheries Partnership under the Fish Right program. Their goal is to protect oceans and improve the livelihoods of local fishing communities through responsible seafood sourcing. They work with seafood suppliers, processors, and end-buyers to ensure the consistent availability of seafood products while supporting ocean health.
One of their main focuses is reducing Illegal, Unregulated, and Unreported (IUU) fishing in the Philippines, as over 40% of the country's wild caught seafood comes from IUU fishing. They also aim to increase transparency in the supply chain by working with buyers and raising awareness among consumers. Buyers and consumers both play a crucial role in protecting the Philippines' natural resources, and Better Seafood Philippines offers ways for both actors to engage with them.
Through partnerships and collaborations, they strive to shift the demand towards responsibly-sourced and sustainable seafood, creating incentives for fisheries to improve over time.
