Beyond Boxing

Beyond Boxing is a New York City youth program that combines boxing mentorship with social-emotional learning to support justice-involved young adults. Its mission is to create an immersive social environment where participants build practical skills and learn to identify, seek, and respond to positive mentorship in their communities. The program’s dual curriculum brings instruction in core values into both the classroom and the boxing ring, using the “sweet science” of boxing as part of a broader personal-development approach.

Beyond Boxing is embedded in established boxing gyms and works with young people ages 14 to 25 who are connected to justice alternative organizations. Participants may be receiving services related to alternatives to sentencing, re-entry, pretrial supervision, or probation. Referrals and ongoing support from a case manager, youth advocate, or similar liaison are required. The program’s services are designed to align with court-related expectations, and the organization reports positive justice outcomes. Through its program, Beyond Boxing aims to help young adults strengthen their confidence, decision-making, and ability to respond thoughtfully, supporting more sustainable progress after graduation.
