About Beyond Vitiligo
Beyond Vitiligo is a South African non-profit organization that provides support and creates awareness for individuals with vitiligo. Founded in 2011 by Gaone Matewa, Beyond Vitiligo now has 140 members, including three young children. Matewa herself has been actively involved in vitiligo awareness since 2009 and has gained extensive knowledge about the condition through collaborations with medical researchers, dermatologists, and vitiligo patient leaders.
Beyond Vitiligo aims to achieve several objectives, including increasing awareness of vitiligo in South Africa, educating the community about the effects and history of vitiligo through social media and lectures, offering support to those affected by the skin condition through workshops and true-life stories, and participating in vitiligo research and partnering with pharmaceutical companies for new treatments.
