BGIRL MAMA is the artistic identity of Mary Mar, a Detroit-based performing artist and educator whose work brings together music, dance, and positive messaging. A Khmer Muslimah b-girl, she draws on her personal journey and creative roots in a large Cambodian family where singing and dancing were part of life. Her early involvement in grade-school choir led to show choir and musical theatre, helping shape her path as a singer, songwriter, dancer, and choreographer.
Through her music, BGIRL MAMA aims to support listeners through difficult times while helping them celebrate good ones. Her message encourages people to come as they are, embrace their individuality, and grow into their best selves. She hopes her songs leave audiences feeling loved, motivated, inspired, and understood. Her debut single, “breathe,” is available to download for free, and its music video can be viewed through her site. Visitors can also explore photos, interviews, videos, merchandise, and calendar updates, or contact BGIRL MAMA to connect with her and learn more about her work.
