About Black Health Education Collaborative
The Black Health Education Collaborative is a pan-Canadian initiative dedicated to transforming medical and health professional education to improve the health of Black communities across Canada. Comprised of Black scholars and practitioners, their mission is to bring about positive change by integrating Black and Africentric knowledges in learning and teaching. The collaborative values Blackness and Black Life, integrity, courage, innovation, autonomy, and collaboration.
They believe in building relationships and sustaining action over the long-term to achieve racial justice. Their dedicated team, consisting of board members and staff from esteemed institutions such as the University of Toronto, Dalhousie University, University of Manitoba, and University of Calgary, works diligently to drive this mission forward. Through their projects, including the Black Health Primer, Situational Assessments, Community of Practice, and Community Stories, they provide a wealth of resources and information to enhance the understanding and awareness of Black health issues.
The Black Health Education Collaborative acknowledges and expresses gratitude to Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island for their resilience and ongoing resistance against colonial violence. By joining forces with these communities, they strive towards self-determination and decolonial futures
