Bibliotecas Públicas

The Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas (National System of Public Libraries) in Chile is dedicated to enhancing public access to literature and information across the nation. Focused on inclusivity, the system offers a diverse range of services including public digital libraries, mobile libraries, and specialized programs for youth and penitentiary institutions. Key initiatives such as the Programa de Mejoramiento Integral de Bibliotecas Públicas (Comprehensive Library Improvement Program) and clubs for reading foster community engagement and promote literacy among all age groups.

The network comprises several regional libraries, including those in Antofagasta, Atacama, and the iconic Biblioteca Santiago Severin, which hosts various cultural and educational events. The system also provides tools and resources for library professionals, including guidelines for effective reading mediation, reflecting its commitment to improving service quality. Through strategic actions and numerous publications, the Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas aims to sustain a culture of reading, support educational opportunities, and empower communities throughout Chile.
