Big Bear Zoo

Welcome to Big Bear Alpine Zoo, the premier rehabilitation facility for injured and orphaned wild animals in Big Bear Lake, CA. With a history dating back to 1959, we have been dedicated to saving wildlife for over six decades. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for animals, offering temporary shelter while they heal or permanent care for those unable to survive on their own.

We take pride in successfully releasing the majority of rehabilitated animals back into their natural habitat. For those that cannot return to the wild, we provide a loving and nurturing environment where they can thrive. Our zoo is home to a diverse range of animals and birds, representing over 85 species.

Owned by the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District, the zoo operates within the stunning San Bernardino National Forest, at an elevation of 7140 feet. Our dedicated team of county employees, including animal care professionals, groundskeepers, and educators, ensure the well-being of our animals and maintain the facility. By visiting Big Bear Alpine Zoo, you're not only supporting the welfare and conservation of these magnificent creatures but also contributing to our ongoing efforts to enhance the facility.

Join us in making a difference for wildlife by becoming a member or participating in our fundraising activities. Help us continue our mission of rescue, rehabilitation, and release for wild animals in need
