Big River Race

Big River Race is a friendly fly-fishing competition organization based in Ružomberok, Slovakia, devoted to fishing on the Váh River and celebrating the river’s angling heritage. Founded by Janči Táborecký, the event grew from a long-held ambition shared with friends and fishing enthusiasts. The first competition took place in late summer 2015, after organizers secured fishing stretches along the river, arranged fish stocking and event facilities, and raised support through sponsors and donations. The Municipal Organization of the Slovak Anglers Association in Ružomberok has co-organized every edition from the beginning.

Big River Race organizes team fishing competitions and shares information about events, dates, results, placements and awards. Its website also features news about the Váh, photographs and videos, and updates on related fishing events, including One Fly Revúca. The organization’s wider purpose is to help renew the river’s former renown and bring anglers together in a welcoming setting. It provides contact details for visitors seeking assistance and links to local fishing resources, including permit sales information and river conditions.
