Big's Backyard Ultra

Big’s Backyard Ultra is the home of the backyard ultra race format and its international championship events. Founded by race director Lazarus Lake in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, the organization connects runners, national teams, race directors, and affiliated events through a global racing network. In a backyard ultra, competitors run a 6.706-kilometre (4.167-mile) loop within each hour, with the remaining time available for recovery before the next lap. The format has no predetermined finish.

Big’s Backyard Ultra publishes race results, world rankings, national records, race calendars, and information about championship qualifying and team rosters. Its World Team Championship brings countries together for synchronized satellite races, with team scores based on the combined yards completed by their runners. The site also provides live race dashboards, leaderboards, and streaming links. Race directors can affiliate their events to contribute results to official rankings, gain visibility on the global calendar, and offer winners a qualifying path to Big’s.
