About Big Sioux River Project
The Big Sioux River Project is dedicated to improving water quality in the Big Sioux River watershed. With nearly 20 years of experience, we have been working diligently to clean up the river and its tributaries. Our focus is on implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce bacteria, sediment, and other pollutants from entering the waterways. We provide financial and technical assistance to landowners for various BMPs such as riparian buffer programs, filter strips, and grassed waterways.
As a non-government project, we collaborate with the East Dakota Water Development District and the Minnehaha Conservation District to raise awareness about water quality issues and monitor the health of the river. Our segmented approach allows us to track progress, generate reports, and engage with the community. In our latest endeavor, Segment 4, we are focusing on implementing BMPs, introducing a Working Lands Easement program, and enhancing community involvement.
