Big Wave Babes

Big Wave Babes is a women’s collective based on the North Shore of Oahu, created to help women face life’s challenges with confidence and support. Founded by Polly, a big-wave surfer, the community draws on lessons from surfing: preparation, training, mindset, and teamwork. Its central idea is that “big waves” are not defined only by their size in the ocean; they can also be personal milestones or difficult changes, such as a job interview, a move, a breakup, or pregnancy. The collective encourages women to meet these challenges head-on and not alone.

Big Wave Babes brings together women through surfing and shared experiences, with a focus on connection, encouragement, and empowerment. Its website features retreats and classes, alongside a gallery, shop, and blog. The blog shares stories and reflections on big-wave surfing, including experiences at Pe’ahi, Nazaré, and Todos Santos, as well as Polly’s path into the sport. Through these offerings and stories, Big Wave Babes invites women to learn, grow, and support one another in and beyond the ocean.
