The Museum of German Inland Navigation in Duisburg presents the history of shipping on Germany’s rivers and canals, from prehistoric times to the present. Located in the former Ruhrort public baths, a historic building with Art Nouveau elements, it stands near the Rhine and Duisburg’s major inland harbour. Across three floors, visitors can explore a multimedia exhibition featuring detailed models and hands-on objects.

The experience continues outdoors along a historic towpath to the museum’s vessels, moored near the former Ruhrort Schifferbörse. Visitors can step aboard the paddle tug Oscar Huber and the bucket-chain dredger Minden, including their engine rooms and former crew and living quarters. The museum offers permanent and special exhibitions, guided tours, family and children’s activities, and educational information for teachers.
