BIOARCH

BIOARCH is a design-and-build practice focused on bioarchitecture: creating healthy, sustainable spaces tailored to each site and client. Its work spans homes, hospitality, education and community-oriented projects, with featured examples including the Poço Quente and Praia houses, Ínsua restaurant, Mawu Art & Education School, and AmaSer nursery. The practice combines architectural design and construction, guided by the belief that buildings should support human wellbeing while contributing positively to their surroundings.

BIOARCH’s approach prioritizes connection with nature, natural light and ventilation, and low-impact, bio-based materials such as wood, lime and cork. It aims to improve indoor air quality by avoiding toxic substances and volatile organic compounds, while using passive strategies—including solar orientation, cross-ventilation, thermal mass and green roofs—to support comfort and reduce energy use. Where appropriate, discreet technology is incorporated in service of wellbeing. Beyond delivering projects, BIOARCH shares ideas and research through its journal and promotes knowledge exchange. The practice welcomes enquiries about projects ranging from residences and peaceful villas to company hubs and city landmarks.
