BioBijen

BioBijen is an organisation dedicated to helping people understand bees and supporting resilient honeybee colonies through natural selection. Its website introduces the fascinating social behaviour, survival strategies and seasonal life of honeybees, with information intended for both beekeepers and people who are simply interested in bees and their role in the environment.

BioBijen manages several honeybee colonies and deliberately allows them to become more feral. Its approach avoids interfering with reproduction and does not treat the colonies for varroa mites. The organisation reports that this simple method has produced healthy, resilient colonies in recent years.

BioBijen also highlights the importance of wild solitary bees, whose contribution to biodiversity is at least as significant. It advocates for a healthy balance between honeybees and solitary species, and for landscapes that provide space for all kinds of bees. To support learning and practical awareness, BioBijen offers information, advice and workshops or presentations, held either at its location or at a participant’s venue.
