BiodiverSO is a Puglia-based network dedicated to protecting and promoting the biodiversity of local vegetable species. The initiative brings together universities, research institutions, an environmental engineering and publishing company, and an agricultural nursery. Its partners include departments at the Universities of Bari, Foggia, and Salento, as well as the National Research Council’s Institute of Biosciences and Bioresources in Bari. Together, they support the study, conservation, and appreciation of traditional crop varieties and regional plant genetic resources.

The BiodiverSO portal shares information through a database, publications, photographs, videos, maps, audio, and a glossary, alongside news, events, and educational activities. Visitors can explore local varieties, learn about in situ and ex situ conservation, and discover traditional Puglian foods and recipes. The network also highlights research and initiatives concerning crop characteristics, nutrition, culinary potential, and traditional agri-food products. Through its “Collaborate” and “Participate” sections, the site invites the public to report a variety or species and contribute recipes or local knowledge.
