BIOFERMENTA GmbH is an Austrian company based in Thalgau near Salzburg, specializing in biological water treatment for swimming ponds and natural pools. Through its BioWaterPool brand, the company brings together scientific research and years of expertise to help create swimming pools that combine the look and convenience of a conventional pool with nature-inspired water care.

BIOFERMENTA develops patented filter systems modeled on natural purification processes. Water flows through a limestone-and-gravel filter, where a biofilm of microorganisms removes nutrients and binds phosphates, helping keep the water clear without chemical additives such as chlorine. The company says this approach can also reduce electricity costs and avoid the need for annual water replacement, while requiring relatively little maintenance.

BIOFERMENTA does not build pools itself. Instead, it works with project partners who use its technology to deliver natural swimming environments for private gardens and larger facilities. Its filters have been installed in hundreds of natural pools, including systems used by Alpentherme Gastein and Area 47.
