BioImages is a comprehensive online resource dedicated to UK biodiversity, offering a virtual field guide that features an extensive collection of photographs showcasing wild species and natural history objects. The platform includes images of approximately 7,000 species, primarily focusing on invertebrates and other non-vertebrate organisms, purposely omitting birds and mammals to maintain a specialized approach. Users can explore the site by navigating through a hierarchical biological classification system, allowing for easy access to various groups and species.

BioImages aims to illustrate biodiversity and assist in the identification of species, providing visual aids that surpass typical printed field guides. This is particularly beneficial for beginners, as the site emphasizes diagnostic features in diverse life stages and perspectives. With over 100,000 images, including habitat shots and macro photographs, BioImages serves as a valuable educational tool for nature enthusiasts, researchers, and casual observers eager to learn more about the natural world in Britain and Ireland.
