BION e.V., the Biodiversity Network Bonn/Rhein-Sieg, brings together organizations working to research and conserve biological diversity. Based in a region with an exceptional concentration of local, regional, national, and international biodiversity institutions, the network connects partners with complementary expertise and encourages collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
Its mission is to support the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity by strengthening links between science, society, and policy. BION serves as an information hub and helps partners exchange knowledge, connect with experts, and engage with national and international processes, including IPBES. Its membership includes universities, international organizations, government ministries and agencies, foundations, research bodies, and the City of Bonn.
BION’s activities include public outreach and environmental education, research and monitoring of species diversity, and initiatives that promote biodiversity, nature conservation, landscape care, and environmental protection. The organization also hosts scientific and public-oriented events, including talks and conferences, and supports projects that foster awareness and cooperation.
