NBDC, the National Bioscience Database Center, is an initiative of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) that supports the use and integration of life science research data. Its mission is to make data more widely available, connected and accessible, helping researchers create knowledge and drive innovation that would be difficult to achieve with disconnected resources. Through its services, NBDC helps users discover and work with biological databases, including cross-database search tools and resources for organizing and sharing research data.

The center also supports research through funding opportunities and fosters collaboration with external partners. To build data skills and encourage informed use, it provides events, workshops and educational materials, alongside news, blog articles and publications about databases and research outcomes. NBDC also shares updates through a monthly newsletter covering training, funding calls and results.

By bringing data resources and communities together, NBDC helps strengthen the foundations for data-driven life science research in Japan and beyond
