BioSyL is a research federation that brings together around 50 research teams using systems biology approaches across Lyon, Grenoble and Saint-Étienne. Its network connects researchers and partner institutions, including universities, hospitals and national research organisations, to study complex living systems through interdisciplinary collaboration. The federation spans biology, medicine, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, and human and social sciences.
Its research areas include cancer, immunology, infectious disease, genomics, evolution, cell biology, ecology, metabolism, and the interactions between organisms. Teams apply methods such as bioinformatics, biostatistics, mathematical modelling, computational biology, imaging, and multi-scale analysis. BioSyL supports the research community by sharing information about its teams, disciplines, partners and regional locations.
It also publicises seminars, workshops, courses, conferences, job opportunities, internships and PhD calls. Events and training address topics such as computational systems biology, data analysis, modelling, and the study of complex systems. Through these activities, BioSyL connects researchers and promotes exchange among scientific communities in the Lyon–Grenoble–Saint-Étienne region
