BIOTEC, the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, is a Thai research organization established in 1983 and now part of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). Its role is to advance and apply science and technology in support of Thailand’s industry, agriculture, environment, economy, and society. The center conducts research and development across areas including plant and aquatic biotechnology, animal health, functional ingredients and food innovation, diagnostics and bioactive compounds, medical molecular biotechnology, biorefinery and bioproducts, biomaterials, omics, and biological resources.
BIOTEC also offers technical services and mechanisms to support the development of biotechnology businesses. Its work is complemented by policy and biosafety studies, researcher and student programs, and regional and international partnerships with public and private organizations. The organization shares research and knowledge through publications, reports, videos, and other information resources, and provides opportunities for student internships and research scholarships.
