About BIP-110
BIP-110 is a Bitcoin-focused proposal and information project advocating a temporary soft fork to limit arbitrary data storage in Bitcoin transactions. It aims to protect Bitcoin’s role as sound, permissionless money by reducing pressure on node operators, limiting competition between data storage and payments for block space, and encouraging development to prioritize monetary use. The proposal sets temporary size limits on transaction outputs, data pushes, and witness elements, alongside restrictions on certain witness versions and Taproot features.
It states that known monetary use cases remain functional and that UTXOs created before activation are exempt from the new rules. The project describes BIP-110 as a one-year deployment that could be refined or extended in response to community feedback. Its website provides the full BIP, technical explanations, an implementation walkthrough, FAQs, evidence and analysis articles, and information about tradeoffs, activation, and expiry.
It also offers guidance for running a validating node with BIP-110 support through Bitcoin Knots and packages or installation options for Start9, Umbrel, myNode, Parmanode, and Docker
