About Bird Pop
Bird Populations is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation known as The Institute for Bird Populations. Established in 1989, our organization is dedicated to studying the causes of bird population declines and promoting the conservation of birds and their habitats. At the heart of our work is the Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) program, a continent-wide network of bird banding stations.
This initiative allows us to collect essential data on bird abundance and vital rates. In addition, we conduct the Monitoreo de Sobrevivencia Invernal (MoSI) program to study Neotropical migrant birds on their wintering grounds. Our regional science and conservation programs focus on avian research, population monitoring, and conservation efforts in various geographic regions.
We collaborate with individuals, government agencies, and NGOs in diverse fields to assess the impact of land management actions, climate change, and other ecological stressors on bird populations. With cutting-edge science and peer-reviewed publications, we aim to conduct top-tier research that addresses pressing ecological questions and supports effective bird conservation. We also strive to train the next generation of avian conservationists.
As a member of the North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI), we are actively involved in bird conservation efforts both locally and globally. Join us in our mission to protect and preserve bird populations and their natural habitats
