Birds of Eden is a free-flight bird sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, offering visitors an immersive way to experience wildlife and learn about conservation. Its distinctive two-hectare dome, described as the world’s largest, stretches across a gorge of indigenous forest. The sanctuary is home to more than 3,500 birds representing over 220 species, with a particular focus on African birds.
Visitors can explore the sanctuary at their own pace, while guided walks are available on request. The experience is designed to be family-friendly and combines wildlife viewing with conservation education. Guests can also support the sanctuary by visiting its shop, volunteering, or contributing to its work.
Birds of Eden is part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance, alongside Monkeyland, Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary, and The Hidden Forest Wildlife Sanctuary. The alliance has received tourism and animal-welfare awards. Birds of Eden welcomes individual visitors and offers single, combination, and TripTic tickets, with reduced admission for children aged three to twelve and free entry for babies under two.
