BirdWatch Zambia (BWZ), formerly known as Zambian Ornithological Society (ZOS), is a membership-based local environmental Non-governmental Organization (NGO) established in 1969. As a partner to BirdLife International, the world’s largest nature conservation partnership, BWZ aims to promote the study, conservation, and general interest in birds and their habitats in Zambia. The main activities of BWZ revolve around Zambia's 42 Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), with a focus on species, sites, systems, and societies.

This involves taking necessary action on species, collecting data on sites to influence land use, and engaging people through community awareness and environmental education in schools. BWZ is actively involved in various projects, including the removal of invasive weeds in important bird areas, such as the Lukanga Swamp and Barotse Floodplain. They are also working on saving the vulture population by partnering with livestock farmers to establish vulture feeding stations.

To promote their mission, BWZ conducts educational campaigns in schools, holds talks about the importance of birds and environmental protection, and produces a termly school newsletter. They also have an education hut in Lusaka National Park to foster children's interest in birds. With a dedicated team and a rich history in bird conservation, BirdWatch Zambia is committed to creating a future where people, birds, and nature coexist and thrive for sustainable socio-economic development
