About Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings
Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT) is a Black-owned, queer-run organization focused on preparing doulas to support clients and advance reproductive justice. Its courses are socially conscious, culturally appropriate, diverse, and action-oriented, combining practical guidance with a justice-based approach to birth work. BADT aims to equip students to use current best practices while becoming active partners in changing birth and reproductive health culture locally, nationally, and globally.
The organization offers 12-week trainings for new and experienced doulas, with a certification option, as well as continuing education courses, workshops, and community events. Learning is available in live and prerecorded formats, and in-person trainings can include hands-on clinical practice, scenario role-playing, and demonstrations. BADT also provides a practicum, a midwifery track, and Spanish-language courses and materials. Its programming explores topics relevant to reproductive justice and doula practice, including fertility treatments, menstrual health, privacy, and lactation planning. Through training, educational resources, and community gatherings, BADT supports learners in developing the skills and perspective to contribute to caring, resourced, and trauma-informed birth experiences.
