Bisongehege Wermsdorf is a family-run organic bison farm in the Saxon town of Wermsdorf, located between Dresden and Leipzig. Established in 2002, the farm spans nearly 40 hectares and is home to more than 60 bison, raised outdoors year-round on grass and hay. The farm is organically certified and says its animals grow slowly, with slaughter only from at least three years of age. To reduce stress, the bison are harvested directly on the pasture, avoiding transport of live animals to a slaughterhouse.
Visitors can admire the herd and buy organic bison meat directly from the farm’s mobile shop, open on the first Saturday of each month from March to December. The business also offers bison products including hides, dog food, breeding animals, gift vouchers, and made-to-order items. Its events include the annual Wermsdorf Bison Festival, a tractor gathering, experiential workshops, and group wagon rides into the enclosure. The farm can also arrange individually planned celebrations, giving guests an opportunity to see the animals up close and enjoy a distinctive countryside experience.
