Bitcoin Quantum is a post-quantum cryptocurrency project powered by BTQ Technologies. It aims to preserve Bitcoin’s familiar monetary and network foundations while replacing its vulnerable elliptic-curve signatures with cryptography designed to withstand attacks from future quantum computers. The project retains a 21 million coin maximum supply, proof-of-work consensus, peer-to-peer architecture, and Bitcoin Core’s UTXO model, while adapting transaction capacity for larger post-quantum signatures.
Its protocol uses NIST-standardized ML-DSA, also known as CRYSTALS-Dilithium and specified in FIPS 204, alongside BIP-360 Pay-to-Merkle-Root addresses that keep public keys hidden until coins are spent. Bitcoin Quantum currently offers a live public testnet, downloadable node software for Windows and Linux, macOS source builds, wallet tools, mining guidance, and a command-line interface for creating addresses and signing transactions. Miners can run nodes and earn testnet BTQ; developers can build wallets, tools, and integrations; researchers are invited to review its security model. The project’s roadmap lists mainnet as upcoming and ecosystem integrations as planned. It is open source under the MIT license.
