BIVA

The BIVA-Pflegeschutzbund is a German, nonprofit organisation representing the interests of people who need care or support. It works to strengthen consumer protection in the care sector through independent advocacy, legal guidance, public information and lobbying. Its resources cover Germany’s care system and practical questions about home, residential and ambulatory care, including care assessments, benefits, financing, contracts, quality checks and residents’ rights. The organisation also addresses alternative living arrangements, care-related legal matters, prevention and consumer issues such as nursing-home costs and suspected care deficiencies.

Through its BIVA advisory service, the organisation offers individual guidance on legal, financial and general problems, including advice on nursing and residential care law and reviews of care contracts. It supports consumer lawsuits and campaigns for improved rights and protections. The BIVA Academy provides training for residents’ councils, alongside events, publications and information for families, residents and other consumers.
