BJJ For The Planet

BJJ For The Planet is a Philadelphia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that uses Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to support underserved youth and protect vulnerable ecosystems. Its mission is to unite grapplers in service of the people and places connected to the sport, turning training, community, and charitable giving into practical support.

The organization hosts charity retreats that bring international participants to train with local communities, volunteer, and help fund ongoing programs. Its inaugural retreat took place in Máncora, Peru, in partnership with Guardian, whose academy provides free, year-round Jiu-Jitsu training for local children. Retreat activities included training, volunteer instruction, cultural exchange, and beach cleanup.

BJJ For The Planet also created CharitySpar, an app that makes friendly sparring matches fundraisers: athletes each choose a charity, and the loser donates to the winner’s selected cause. The nonprofit works with partners including Guardian and Elite Sports, which has donated gis and apparel for athletes who need them. Donations help cover training gear and retreat costs, while the organization welcomes volunteers, donors, and potential partners.
