Bjørn Friborg is a Danish glass artist whose practice brings a physical, performative approach to contemporary glassmaking. His improvisational process is driven by bodily energy and a desire to express the material’s possibilities, challenging traditions established over centuries. Friborg creates blown-glass works as well as pieces combining glass and ceramic, often capturing moments of pressure, impact, and transformation.
His Implosion series features monolithic oval forms that appear to hold the instant when internal air pressure gives way to the weight of poured glass. In the Penetration series, large blown-glass objects are entered by molten glass infused with silver nitrate, creating dynamic forms that connect the language of glass with ceramics. Selected works also include Tower and Untitled.
Friborg presents his work through exhibitions and professional art events, and his activities include teaching and artist residencies, such as a Swedish Graal masterclass at Pilchuck and a residency at the Royal Danish Academy. He is represented by Hostler Burrows in New York and Los Angeles, and Galleri Montan in Copenhagen.
