About Bjørnsonfestivalen
Bjørnsonfestivalen is Norway's oldest literature festival, established in 1992. With a strong focus on promoting literature and the art of writing, it has become one of the country's largest literature festivals. Named after Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, the first Norwegian Nobel Prize winner in Literature, the festival boasts an international profile and hosts guests from around the world.
The festival offers a diverse program that encompasses a wide range of literature genres and themes. Reflecting Bjørnson's commitment to civil rights and freedom of speech, the festival explores these important societal issues. Each year, the festival features approximately 120 writers, artists, and academics who contribute to the program.
In 2019, the festival attracted an audience of 14,000 during the week-long event in September. Held in Molde, Norway, the festival also holds events throughout the year at its main location, Plassen. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon has been the festival's patron since 2006.
