Black Pens is a UK-based writing retreat created for Black womxn and femmes, bringing writers together in a supportive setting to build creativity, confidence and community. Founded in 2022 by author and tech consultant Onyi Nwabineli, it welcomes established, aspiring and curious writers across genres and disciplines.
The retreat combines time to write and relax with expert-led sessions, opportunities to learn about writing, and peer feedback. Attendees can also enjoy fellowship and the retreat’s surroundings, whether they want to work towards specific writing goals or simply take time for themselves. Black Pens aims to provide a safe, welcoming space where participants can share experiences, encourage one another and make progress in their creative work.
The programme includes annual retreats, with the 2026 event scheduled for April 27 to May 2 at Mimosa Retreat, a private venue with individual villas in Lefkada, Greece.
