Black Boys Fence, LLC is a Chicago-based organization founded in 2023 to inspire and mentor young people through fencing. Led by CEO Scott Holliday, whose own fencing journey began at age ten, the organization works to challenge the perception of fencing as an elite or inaccessible sport and to increase representation in the fencing community. Its welcoming programs are open to youth of all genders, backgrounds, and identities.
Black Boys Fence expands access through youth workshops, school partnerships, beginner fencing courses, and live demonstrations. It also mentors aspiring fencers, supports student-led fencing clubs, consults on inclusive programming, and offers author visits, storytelling events, and panels focused on equity, entrepreneurship, and representation. The organization sells T-shirts and books, including Scott’s Fantastic Fencing Journey, and directs proceeds toward uniforms and equipment for underserved communities. Through outreach and hands-on learning, Black Boys Fence aims to help young people build confidence, explore a new sport, and imagine bold possibilities for themselves.
