The Black Miners Museum is an online archive and heritage initiative founded and led by Nottingham News Centre CIC, a Nottinghamshire social enterprise established in 2013. Directed by historian Dr Norma Gregory, it preserves and shares the stories of Black and African-Caribbean miners and other under-represented communities in Britain’s industrial history, connecting local experiences with the wider global story of labour and industry. Its collection includes oral histories, archival and contemporary photographs, film, video, research data, creative works, and an archive catalogue.
The museum also presents the Digging Deep touring exhibition and gallery, diverse heritage publications, and educational resources. For organisations, it offers heritage consultancy and interpretation support, oral history and heritage training, project management, webinars, curatorial work, exhibition management support, and heritage e-publishing. Through partnerships with museums, charities, social enterprises, and communities, the museum aims to make heritage more inclusive, broaden access, and engage diverse and younger audiences.
Its work supports education and celebrates collaboration, creativity, and the contributions of communities often overlooked in traditional heritage collections
