Black Country Festival is a region-wide celebration of the heritage, culture and future of England’s Black Country. Established in 2014, it brings together the boroughs of Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Sandwell in an annual programme of community-led events held throughout July. The festival grew from a desire to recognise the area’s history while celebrating its continuing development and potential.
At the heart of the festivities is Black Country Day, observed on July 14. To help more people take part, celebrations also extend to the nearest weekend, while the wider festival spans the whole month. Rather than focusing on one venue or event, it serves as an umbrella for hundreds of activities across the four boroughs, organised by local communities.
The festival also shares event listings and regional stories through its website, alongside magazine content, photos and videos. It celebrates the Black Country Flag, designed by Gracie Sheppard in 2012 and officially recognised by the government in 2013, as a symbol of local unity and pride.
