BlackFest is a dynamic and inclusive grassroots Black Arts festival founded in 2018 by Jubeda Khatun, the Co-Founder and Artistic Director. This annual festival, held at the end of September, serves as a platform to showcase, empower, and develop the work of Black artists in Liverpool. Featuring a diverse range of artistic expressions, including music, theatre, film, visual arts, spoken word, and poetry, BlackFest bridges the gap between institutions and marginalized communities, celebrating the vibrancy of Black arts.
Driven by a mission to cultivate and nurture Black artists and communities, BlackFest aims to amplify stories that are political, social, economic, and emotionally charged, giving voice to the dual identities and multiple experiences of Black Britons. With a vision to promote Black arts, programming, and education, BlackFest collaborates with artists, organizations, and the community to foster artistic excellence and create powerful shared experiences. At its core, BlackFest believes in using arts as a tool to enhance wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion.
They empower Black artists by providing an inclusive platform that showcases their talents and supports their creative journeys. Through artistic development programs, community engagement, and accessible opportunities, BlackFest seeks to inspire participation in the arts and effect positive social change. Join BlackFest on their mission to uplift Black arts and improve equality in the artistic landscape
