Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) is a non-profit community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario, serving low-income Black residents of Ontario. Its mission is to educate, advocate and litigate to confront individual and systemic anti-Black racism and advance access to justice, accountability and empowerment.
BLAC provides legal services and information on matters including education, employment, housing, human rights and government support. Its work also includes legal reform, test cases and system navigation, using litigation to challenge systemic barriers and pursue lasting structural change. The centre delivers public legal education sessions for general audiences and groups on request, and publishes statements and submissions on legislation, public policy and issues affecting Black and low-income Ontarians.
Through projects and community-based referrals, BLAC helps people understand their rights and find support. Its BLAC Out Hate initiative addresses anti-Black hate across Canada through awareness, advocacy and action, with educational resources, webinars, workshops and an anti-Black hate reporting system.
