About A Black People's History of Canada
A Black People’s History of Canada (BPHC) is a groundbreaking project led by renowned scholar Dr. Afua Cooper, with the aim of addressing the lack of Black history education in Canadian schools. The project, funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage, spans over three years and delves into the rich history of African Canadians from 1604 to the present day. Through extensive research, BPHC aims to create accurate and engaging learning materials for educators and learners in both English and French.
With a focus on promoting equity and justice, BPHC seeks to fill critical gaps in African Canadian history education to support the academic success of Black Canadian youth. The project collaborates with various organizations, educational authorities, and government agencies across the country to ensure that the material meets curriculum standards in each province and territory.
