BlackSpace

BlackSpace is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on culture-first community development. It works toward a future in which Black people, places, and culture can thrive, bringing their histories, values, and creative expression to the center of work in the built environment. Its approach combines capital, capacity-building, and community support for founders and projects that amplify Black cultural contributions in public spaces.

BlackSpace offers micro-grants and direct services to local ventures, alongside design and business education intended to support long-term sustainability. It also provides visibility and network support for emerging approaches to culture-first design and urban planning. Its tools and resources include the BlackSpace Manifesto and Playbook, which encourage practitioners to center lived experience, listen deeply, protect culture, build trust, cultivate wealth, and plan and design with communities.

Through its accelerator and related initiatives, BlackSpace supports founders and community builders working toward more equitable, culturally grounded places. The organization also shares its work and community stories through its website, social channels, press features, and newsletter, and welcomes tax-deductible donations.
